What does a Colorectal Surgeon do?
Colorectal surgeons diagnose and treat problems of the lower digestive tract. They remove colon and rectal cancers, operate on Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, treat diverticulitis, and manage common but uncomfortable conditions such as hemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas. Many operations are done laparoscopically or robotically.
They also perform colonoscopy and other endoscopic procedures, treat fecal incontinence and pelvic floor problems, and create and reverse ostomies.
