The sources

Where the career figures come from

  • BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics

    May 2025

National and state pay for each occupation.

  • BLS Employment Projections

    2025–2035

How fast each occupation is expected to grow, and how many openings to expect.

  • BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook

    2025–2035 edition

Typical education and training for entry, and the outlook for the work.

  • O*NET 31.0 Database

    August 2026

Tasks, skills, knowledge, abilities, interests and work context, from the U.S. Department of Labor’s occupational database.

  • BEA Regional Price Parities

    2024

What a fixed basket of goods, services and rent costs in each state, used to adjust pay for cost of living.

NueCareer is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Bureau of Labor Statistics or the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The methodology

How we handle the data

We publish how the directory is built, including what the data cannot tell you.

  • No crowdsourced salaries

Official pay figures come from the federal wage survey, not from self-reported salaries. Some specialty careers also show a second figure from a named industry source, always labelled and placed beside the federal number, never instead of it.

  • AI does not write the directory’s numbers

No figure in the career directory is generated by an AI model. The directory was last rebuilt on October 15, 2026, and each page shows when its data was last updated.

  • Scores are calculated and explained

A fit score compares a personality profile with a career’s O*NET interest profile using a published formula, so the same inputs always give the same score. It shows resemblance. It does not predict job performance or satisfaction, and we say so.

  • Our own analysis is labelled

Scores we derive, such as AI resilience and personality fit, are marked as NueCareer analysis and are never presented as government figures.

  • Gaps stay visible

When the government publishes no figure, we show none rather than filling it with an estimate. Our 818 specialty careers use their parent occupation’s federal figures, and each page names that parent.

  • Updated on a set schedule

Wages and projections are refreshed within 30 days of each federal release, and O*NET content follows its quarterly updates. Known limitations are published on the methodology page.

The foundation

The data is what the app is built on

Each part of NueCareer connects back to this directory.

  • Your quiz results

Your answers are scored against the directory by a fixed matching engine, and each match takes its pay and growth figures from the directory.

  • Your career matches

In your dashboard, AI reads your background and chooses specific roles from the directory’s catalog. Each role links to its nearest occupation for growth and outlook data. The pay on a role card is an AI estimate, and the app labels it as one.

  • Reality checks

Fixed rules then check those roles. A role that needs a license or degree you have not told us you hold cannot be shown as ready now, and the typical education data feeds that check.

  • Your career coach

When you discuss a career from the directory, the AI coach receives that career’s federal record with its data dates and is told to take market numbers from it.

  • Job search and resumes

Both tools draw on the occupation linked to your matches, so your search and your resume start from the same data.
