Getting in
How to become a Marketplace Manager
Marketplace managers often have a bachelor's degree in marketing, business or e-commerce, but hands-on experience with Seller Central or Vendor Central counts most. Many start as e-commerce coordinators or as account specialists at marketplace agencies.
Amazon offers free training and certifications for its advertising tools, and marketplace platforms publish detailed seller policies that managers must follow. Strong spreadsheet skills, comfort with advertising data, and an eye for product copy and images are valuable.

The work
What does a Marketplace Manager do?
For many consumer brands, a large share of sales now happens on marketplaces such as Amazon, Walmart Marketplace and Target Plus. Marketplace managers run those channels. They write and optimize product listings, manage images and content, and run sponsored product advertising campaigns.
They watch rankings, reviews, pricing and competitors daily, forecast inventory needs, and coordinate shipments to marketplace fulfillment centers. When listings get suppressed or hijacked by unauthorized sellers, they work through the platform's seller tools to fix it. Marketplace managers work in-house at brands or at agencies that manage many brands' accounts.
