Values shown as $239,200+ exceed the BLS publication ceiling; exact figures are not published. Those states are ranked at that floor, so their true position may be higher.

Method

How the cost-of-living adjustment works

The adjusted column divides each state median by that state's BEA Regional Price Parity (RPP) and multiplies by 100. RPPs measure how much a fixed basket of goods, services and rents costs in one state relative to the national average, so the result restates local pay in national-average dollars.

For Obstetricians and Gynecologists, that changes the ranking: Utah leads on raw pay at $437,170, while North Dakota leads once prices are taken into account at $465,450.

States whose median is shown as $239,200+ have no adjusted figure at all: the published value is a ceiling rather than a measured wage, and dividing a ceiling by a price parity would produce a number that looks exact but is not.
