# Career Directory

NueCareer's career directory covers 923 U.S. occupations. Every wage, employment and projection figure comes from a federal source — O\*NET for the descriptive content, BLS OEWS for wages, BLS Employment Projections for outlook, the Occupational Outlook Handbook for narrative and BEA Regional Price Parities for the cost-of-living adjustment. Facet flags, AI-resilience scores and personality-fit scores are derived by NueCareer from O\*NET ratings and are labelled as such wherever they appear.

Each occupation has a page at https://nuecareer.com/careers/{slug}. How every derived figure is computed is documented at https://nuecareer.com/careers/methodology.

## Collections

Curated shortlists, each ranked by the criterion in its description.

- [Highest-Paying Jobs](https://nuecareer.com/careers/highest-paying-jobs) — Every occupation in the bank ranked by national median annual wage, with projected growth, annual openings and typical entry requirement beside each one. The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, which is what usually ranks for this question, reports physician pay as a median "equal to or greater than $239,200 per year" and says the differences in pay between physician specialties are not available. That ceiling is a publication rule rather than a measurement: OEWS withholds any wage at or above $239,200 a year and prints "#" in its place. In the OEWS May 2025 national file no wage field is withheld, so this list gives the exact median BLS measured for each occupation, including the specialties the Handbook folds into "$239,200 or more". The ceiling still applies to 86 state wage rows across 19 occupations, which are shown as "$239,200+" on the salary-by-state pages and are never used to rank anything here. (30 occupations)
- [Jobs That Pay $100k a Year](https://nuecareer.com/careers/jobs-that-pay-100k) — Occupations whose national median annual wage is $100,000 or more, ranked by projected annual openings rather than by pay, so the list answers which six-figure jobs actually hire in volume instead of repeating the top of the highest-paying list. A six-figure median is a stronger claim than a six-figure ceiling: it means half the people already in the occupation earn more than that. (30 occupations)
- [Jobs That Pay $20 an Hour](https://nuecareer.com/careers/jobs-that-pay-20-an-hour) — Occupations whose BLS median hourly wage is at least $20.00 and under $25.00, ranked by projected annual openings so the list leads with the work that exists in volume at this rate. The hourly figure is the one BLS publishes in the OEWS release, not an annual salary divided by 2,080; occupations OEWS reports on an annual basis only, which is most teaching and airline flight-crew work, carry no hourly wage to test and are left off rather than converted. The band has an upper end so that each rate gets its own list rather than four copies of the same one; jobs paying above $25 an hour are on the higher lists. (30 occupations)
- [Jobs That Pay $25 an Hour](https://nuecareer.com/careers/jobs-that-pay-25-an-hour) — Occupations whose BLS median hourly wage is at least $25.00 and under $30.00, ranked by projected annual openings so the list leads with the work that exists in volume at this rate.
